Emergency Management

The Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act defines an emergency as:

“a situation or an impending situation that constitutes a danger of major proportions that could result in serious harm to persons or substantial damage to property and that is caused by the forces of nature, a disease or other health risk, an accident or an act whether intentional or otherwise.”

The Reeve, as the head of council, has the power to declare a state of emergency. The Reeve will consult with the Municipal Emergency Control Group and review the Emergency Plan prior to declaring an emergency.

Being prepared starts with you being responsible for the safety of yourself and your family.

Every family should have a 72-hour emergency kit. It should have everything you and your family would need to be safe and take care of yourselves for at least three days immediately following an emergency.

You should also develop a household emergency plan.

This plan is in the process of being updated and will be posted as soon as it is available.

The Township of Gillies Emergency Management Plan outlines roles and responsibilities of essential services to ensure that these services are provided to the municipality throughout the emergency.
