Greetings Gillies Residents
It has been some time since we have had a newsletter, and you may be wondering why. The newsletter in its previous format will no longer be available. Following AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) guidelines is important for the community and has led to this change. Council has come up with a solution that we believe will deliver important information to residents in a timely manner while also ensuring everyone has equal access to said information.
At various times throughout the year there will be announcements for public meeting dates, changes to bylaws, changes to office times and other important information. Please use the “news” section on the website to subscribe to all updates. Also, when there is pertinent information for the community, we will send out a flyer similar to this one.
Office Hours
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8:30-4:30 (Closed 12:00 to 12:30 for lunch)
Wednesday closed to the public to accommodate training and sustained time for work projects

Upcoming Holiday and other Closures:
- Family Day, Monday, February 19
- Staff Training, Thursday, February 29
- Easter, Friday April 29th, and Monday May April 1st
- Victoria Day, Monday May 20
When visiting the office, please ring the doorbell upon arrival. If you think you may need more than 15 minutes, please make an appointment ahead of time so staff has time to prepare and to avoid being interrupted during your visit. Examples of this could include but are not limited to cemetery, building or planning issues and commissioner of oaths duties performed by the clerk.
Reminder
The Rosslyn and Murillo libraries are available for Gillies residents. A variety of activities for the whole family are offered and of course many books! Drop by and see what they have to offer and get your library card today.
Landfill
Open Saturdays 11-5 and Wednesdays 6-8 from May 1 to September 15
The landfill is for household waste only. Refer to the bylaw online for information regarding what is considered acceptable and what is not. Please remember that recycling is mandatory at the Gillies landfill.
Council Meetings
Held the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month (if Monday is a holiday then it’s held Tuesday) at 6:30 p.m.
Currently, council meetings are being held at the municipal office and virtually for public attendance. All meetings can be attended virtually while Council continues to consider having in-person attendance. Attendance will be limited to six people in person on a first come first served basis. Security will be present which will come at a cost of approximately $150 per meeting. Council would like feedback on these issues. Please fill out the online survey by March 17, 2024 to have your opinion heard. If you would like a paper copy of the survey, let us know and one will be provided for you.
Thank you to all residents of the community that have the best interest at heart for their community and are polite, well intentioned and respectful in their interactions with staff, council and volunteers. This extends to their neighbours as well. It is unfortunate that it is time again to remind residents to stop ongoing harassment. This is unacceptable in all its forms. It makes it incredibly difficult for Council to make decisions regarding more openness within the office and meetings when this is ongoing. Most of the community is not like this however, there are incidents that make it challenging for work to get done and for Council to move forward with getting things back to some sort of normalcy. Until such time, things will remain as they are, and security will be necessary for in person attendance at meetings.
