As we enter into the New Year there are some important updates for you to know.

As Ontario moves toward the 2026 municipal elections, both current elected officials and aspiring candidates are navigating increasing levels of community expectation, online toxicity, and pressures on personal wellbeing. This series provides a supportive, skills-focused environment to strengthen your leadership foundation and reconnect with the values that guide public service.

In times of crisis, it is important that residents have access to trusted, timely and accurate information to ensure their own safety and that of their family and loved ones. In response to this need, the Township of Gillies has chosen Voyent Alert! as the communication service provider for these kinds of events.

• Emergency Alerts

Environment and Climate Change Canada has launched colour-coded weather alerts to help Canadians quickly understand their level of risk during severe weather.

But, what do the colours mean? 

Yellow: Hazardous Impacts moderate, localized, and/or short-term

Orange (most common): Severe, Impacts major and/or widespread

Red (uncommon): Very dangerous, Impacts extreme, extensive, and prolonged, or rare

Remember: know the colour, know the risk.

Electronic Waste Recycling at the Gillies Landfill

Got old electronics lying around? Don’t toss them—recycle them!

The Township of Gillies is part of EPRA Ontario’s official electronics recycling program. If it has a plug, cord, or runs on power—it likely belongs in the Electronic Waste Bin at the landfill.

• Landfill

The municipal office observes all federal and provincial statutory holidays. When a statutory holiday falls on a Friday, the office will also be closed on the following Monday.
